XAUUSD — Value Acceptance Around 3,980
Auction State
XAUUSD on H2 remains in a directional bearish auction, with price now trading around 3,980 after leaving the previous 4,000–4,040 distribution behind. The market continues to explore lower prices beneath the descending H2 dynamic resistance, but it is also approaching the chart’s Major Lower Value, where the efficiency of the bearish auction should be tested.
The macro backdrop remains restrictive for Gold. Bullion finished last week below $4,000, down roughly 4% for the week, as higher oil prices revived inflation concerns and strengthened expectations that U.S. rates could remain elevated. Markets largely expect the Fed to hold rates at the October 27–28 meeting, while pricing roughly a 78% probability of another hike in December.
The next major inflation catalyst is September PCE on October 29, with August headline PCE previously running at 3.4% year-on-year.
Where Value Sits
A complete Volume Profile is not displayed, so POC, VAH and VAL should not be assumed.
Current trade around 3,975–3,990 remains part of active lower-price discovery.
The chart’s key lower distribution sits around 3,905–3,925, marked as Major Lower Value.
Above price, 4,035–4,050 is the First Value Reclaim.
The broader recovery reference remains 4,090–4,105, marked as Upper Rotation and positioned beneath the descending H2 resistance structure.
Buyer vs Seller Acceptance
Seller acceptance remains dominant because the auction continues to migrate away from previously accepted higher prices.
However, the market is becoming increasingly extended toward Major Lower Value.
If H2 explores 3,905–3,925 but fails to remain there, that would suggest lower prices are attracting responsive buyers rather than developing into stable value.
The first meaningful evidence of recovery would then be sustained trade back through 4,035–4,050.
Main Auction Scenario
The main scenario is a Major Lower Value test followed by a progressive rotational recovery.
Price may first continue exploring toward 3,905–3,925, allowing the auction to determine whether cheaper prices are still accepted.
If that region produces rejection, H2 could rotate toward 4,035–4,050 First Value Reclaim.
A temporary return lower after that recovery would remain consistent with the scenario provided Major Lower Value continues to reject sustained trade.
If H2 later establishes acceptance above the reclaim zone, the auction could expand toward 4,090–4,105 Upper Rotation.
The important confirmation is not simply a rebound from the lows, but whether previously abandoned prices begin developing into accepted value again.
Key Auction Levels
4,090–4,105 — Upper Rotation
4,035–4,050 — First Value Reclaim
3,975–3,990 — Current lower-price discovery
3,905–3,925 — Major Lower Value
Thesis Failure
The rotational recovery thesis would weaken if H2 moves through 3,905–3,925 and begins building sustained acceptance below Major Lower Value.
That would indicate that the bearish auction has not yet found a meaningful lower extreme and that value discovery remains active beneath the charted distribution.
Auction View
XAUUSD remains in a lower-value auction, but 3,905–3,925 is becoming the key test of whether sellers can continue finding acceptance at progressively cheaper prices. If Major Lower Value rejects the downside, can H2 rebuild acceptance through 4,035–4,050 and eventually reopen rotation toward 4,090–4,105?
